Installing Infa Luxi baby car seat is not as hard as many believe; provided certain steps are take. The Luxi child restraint has been around a number of years and since the original LUXI appeared on the market a number of changes have been made to the child restraint.
The major changes which have happened over time have been the type of cover, and the color of the covers. This generally will not impact the installation of the Luxi car seat; however the seat belt path has changed.
The original seat belt path of the Infa Luxi carseat was around the back of the seat and it was fairly clear as to how / where the seat belt should go.
Unfortunately not all cars have a long enough seat belt (both lap and sash) to go completely around through hoops at the back of the Luxi. In one instance I saw a self install where only the lap part was going around the back and the sash part of the seatbelt was cutting across the seat. Thankfully in this case the seat belt was long enough and I were able to correct the issue.
However there are other problems such as when the seatbelt is threaded correctly through the back hoops, then the tension in the seatbelt can make one part of the seat belt pop out of the hoop holding the seatbelt in place. Soltuion– loosen tension and move the seat belt lower in the hoop and re-tighten.
Update – Installing Infa Luxi baby car seat
Infa Secure realised the problems with the original seat belt path; at the back of the seat; and certified a new seat belt path through SAI Global . The New seat Belt path goes through the side splits and under the padding. Additionally later models of the Infa Secure Luxi Include the safe grip clamp; making the installation much easier for parents.
Alternate Seat Belt Path
Thankfully Infa Introduced a single seatbelt path for both the forward and rear facing positions, however the back hoops still existed, causing some parents to be confused as to which seat belt path to use.
When you have 2 seat belt paths for rear facing then always use the seat belt path going through the seat and not around the back of the seat. There may be some old luxi’s still in store so just use the single seat belt path through the seat.
Due to the amount of padding that comes with the INFA Luxi; then some of this padding needs to be taken out; to get access to where the seat belt path is underneath all of the padding. This is just annoying not an issue with the seat.
The last issue with installing the Infa Luxi child restraint, is that; when the seat belt goes high above normal or the seat is very low, it is possible for the seat belt to slip out. Solution – also use a gated buckle on the non buckle side with the red safe grip clamp on the buckle side. In many of the instances you will not have to use a gated buckle as it is only for exceptionally high seat belts.
