The Safety 1st Prime AP car seat is the latest car seat offering from Safety 1st. The purpose in releasing the new car seat from sfety 1st is in order to replace the safety 1st Custodian Plus II, which was a copy of the Maxi Cosi Goliath car seat (now dis-continued) and has been replicated under the mother choice brand under a different name.
There has been very little change from the Goliath to the custodian Plus II to the Prime AP. In fact in all cases it is simply the cover which has changed. looking at the Safety 1st Prime AP, the latest change is the new Anti Bacterial Fabric.
Width of the seat
The Safety 1st Prime AP is said to be narrow; however at 45cm wide; it is significantly wider than most other car seats on the market. The seat is exactly the same width as the old Safety 1st custodian Plus II, so no real benefit there
Harness
The Harness of the safety 1st Prime is the same as the Custodian Plus II; which needs to be manually re-threaded. Every time you need to make the harness adjustment; it is possible to easily twist the harness when re-attaching the harness to the spreader plate.
Installation
The initial installation instructions of the Safety 1st Prime AP; did not change and have the seat belt wrapping the armrest. This is a problem when parents activate ALR; such that they may need to cut off the arm rest of the seat.
Later the Installation instructions have been amended; but the seat belt path is very complicated and difficult to get a good installation. Seat Recline
There is no recline on the Safety 1st Prime; so that it is not suitable for children who like to sleep in the car or are very young. When you require a Forward facing car seat that is easy to use; with a great recline, the best seat on the market is the Britax Maxi Guard.

There are too many companies that like to exaggerate; what is natural and how it actually works. Hopefully Safety 1st will be forth-coming with this information; so that mums and dads are aware as to what is in the new fabric..
Quick research into Natural anti-bacteriall reveals a number of potential solutions such as adding silver or copper to the fabric; as well as lemon myrtle being a natural anti bacterial agent.
There is a fabric on the market called Puretex which has silver impregnated into the fabric. Alas until we know what the active agent is then we hope that it is not toxic…
Headrest adjustment
The Safety 1st Prime AP has a new head rest height adjuster lever has changed to be a littler easier to use rather than pressing a button in and then lifting it is now a lever making it easier to adjust.

Safety 1st Prime AP car seat Summary
Not Recommended – considering there is very little change to the former seat (Custodian Plus II); this seat has a higher RRP; with a difficult instalation path . Very few parents will be able to install this seat easily. The lack of recline; means that the seat is not suitable for toddlers under 3; or for children who like to sleep in the car.
